Privacy Policy

How Bushkir collects, uses and protects your personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Last updated 20 September 2026.

This document is written to protect both you and Bushkir, and applies as published. It should still be reviewed by a qualified South African attorney before it is relied on in a dispute.

1. Who is responsible

Bushkir is the responsible party for the personal information processed on this platform. For any privacy question, or to reach our Information Officer, email info@bushkir.co.za.

2. What we collect

Account details: name, email address, mobile number, password (stored encrypted), and the type of account you hold.

Booking details: dates, number of people, species and packages selected, special requests, dietary or medical notes you choose to share, and messages sent through the platform.

Business details: for farms, stay hosts and partners — business name, registration and VAT numbers, banking details for payouts, ownership or permit documents and listing photographs.

Verification: identity or ownership documents where required. A selfie with ID is optional.

Payment information: handled by our payment provider, Paystack. We never see or store your full card number.

Technical information: device, browser, IP address and pages visited, used to keep the platform secure and working.

3. Why we use it

To create your account, show and match listings, take and confirm bookings, take payment and pay hosts, send confirmations, invoices and important trip information, provide support and Bushkir Rescue, prevent fraud, meet legal and tax obligations, and improve the platform.

We rely on the performance of your booking contract, our legitimate interest in running a safe marketplace, our legal duties, and — for marketing — your consent.

4. Who we share it with

Only as far as needed: with the farm, host or partner you book with (name, contact details, dates and relevant trip details); with our payment provider; with our email, hosting, mapping and calendar service providers; with professional advisers; and with authorities where the law requires it.

We do not sell your personal information to anyone.

5. Cross-border processing

Some of our service providers store data outside South Africa. Where that happens, we only use providers that offer a level of protection comparable to POPIA, backed by contract.

6. How long we keep it

Account and booking records are kept for as long as your account is open and for at least five years afterwards, as tax and financial legislation requires. Marketing preferences are kept until you withdraw them. Verification documents are deleted once verification lapses or your account closes.

7. Your rights

You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to processing, withdraw consent to marketing, and receive a copy of what you gave us. Email info@bushkir.co.za and we will respond within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at complaints.IR@justice.gov.za.

8. Security

Data is encrypted in transit, access is limited to the staff who need it, database access rules restrict every record to the people entitled to see it, and payments run through a PCI-compliant provider. If a breach ever affects your information, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.

9. Cookies and messages

We use cookies that keep you signed in and remember your preferences, plus basic analytics. You can block cookies in your browser, though parts of the platform may stop working.

Booking, payment and safety emails are part of the service and cannot be switched off while you have an active booking. Marketing emails always carry an unsubscribe link.

10. Children

Accounts are for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children, other than the names and ages of minors travelling on a booking, supplied by the booking adult.

11. Changes

We will publish any change to this policy here with a new date. For related rules, see our Terms and Conditions and Cancellation and Refund Policy.
